About

Natural Building Alliance

A better way to understand natural building.

The Natural Building Alliance exists to connect people with
practical knowledge about designing, building, and living in
buildings made with natural materials.

Why We Exist

Natural building shouldn’t be difficult to understand.

The knowledge exists. It lives in books, building sites, design
offices, workshops, research, regulations, manufacturers, and the
experience of people who have been doing this work for decades.

The problem is that much of that knowledge is scattered, difficult
to find, or difficult to translate into practical decisions.

The Natural Building Alliance is being built to change that.

Our Approach

Practical knowledge over ideology.

Natural building is not about rejecting everything conventional.
It is about understanding materials, buildings, places, and people
well enough to make better choices.

Sometimes the best answer is a natural material. Sometimes it is
a combination of natural and conventional systems. What matters
is whether the building works.

What We Believe

Better buildings come from better information.

These principles shape the way we approach natural building
education and the resources we create.

Evidence matters.

We value experience, research, testing, observation, and
measurable building performance.

Context matters.

A material or building system cannot be separated from its
climate, site, design, construction, and intended use.

People matter.

Buildings are ultimately places for people. Comfort, health,
durability, affordability, and usability belong in the discussion.

Craft matters.

Good materials still require good detailing, good workmanship,
and an understanding of how assemblies actually perform.

Access matters.

Useful building knowledge should be understandable and available
to homeowners, builders, designers, and curious people alike.

Learning matters.

Natural building continues to evolve. We should remain willing
to test assumptions and learn from what works.

The Mission

Make natural building knowledge easier to find, understand, and use.

The Alliance is being developed as a living knowledge resource:
part educational platform, part reference library, and part
community connecting the people doing the work.

Over time, the goal is to bring together practical guides,
technical resources, case studies, professionals, materials,
research, and real-world experience in one place.

Help build the resource.

Have experience, research, a project, a correction, or an idea
that could make natural building knowledge more useful?
We’d like to hear from you.
